Tuesday, November 27, 2018

Banjul-based wrestler France of Club Sakku Ham-Ham, Sunday defeated Boy Balla of Jabang-Mbollo in a fight that lasted for 3 minutes and 36 secconds.

The battle brought together thousands of Gambian wrestling followers and was held at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. The much-talked about battle was staged by Nasirru Promotion including eight other bouts.

The hype around the battle went beyond expectations after the face-to-face (war of words) between the two wrestlers some three two weeks ago. Prior to the fight, both wrestlers promised victory to their fans. “I know you very well because you have only one way of fighting,” Boy Balla told France during the war of words but France responded, saying, “The one way fight that you know me for will beat you.”

Both of them came into the fight with the aim to defeat but France proved too strong than Boy Balla, who was tipped as the favourite ahead of the encounter.

France told journalists after his victory that, Boy Balla was just pushed into fighting with him but he is not a match with Balla adding that, he has done exactly what he promised to his fans by beating him with one way fight he is known for. “I swear, everyone knows that I am not a match with Boy Balla but they just pushed him onto me, thinking that he could defeat me,” he said.

France, who promised his fans that he would make them happy all the time, said the victory is for all his supporters and the people of Banjul, saying he worked so hard to earn the victory because he knows that many people were against him before and during the fight.
