Works Minister Jobe attends Marrakech road safety meeting

Works, Construction and Infrastructure Minister Lamin Ousainou Jobe have participated in the first African Road Safety Forum in Marrakech, Morocco which was held from 13th to 15 November.

Under the theme; Road Safety in Africa: Sustainable Development Issue. More than 300 people including government, organization officials, experts, economic sectors and NGO’s from the African continent working for road safety participated in the forum where experiences and good practices on road safety in the African was shared.

“The forum is timely and The Gambia is thrilled to join other countries to discuss strategic and institutional management of road safety in Africa,” minister Jobe said during his speech at the ministerial session on Tuesday.

He said Gambia government is keenly challenged to curb the burden of road accidents in in the country by providing smooth mobility for its citizens.

Executive director of Save Life Gambia (SLG) and a member of PAN African NGO’s for Road Safety Dawda Bah said the platform is a right place where participants can connect and inspire one another on road safety.

He emphasized on the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda.

Objectives of the forum

The forum targets to create an African framework for reflection on road safety in Africa and promote ownership on road safety in Africa, to achieve the goals of 2011-2020 Decade of Action.

The forum also promotes cooperation between African countries in the field of road safety; develop exchanges and relations between African economic operators in the field of road safety. Economic investment with various sectors related to road safety.

However, the forum encourages investment in various sectors related to road safety; promote the integration of new technologies into the management and management of road safety in Africa.

Pooling and capitalizing on NGO experiences to serve as a relay for anchoring values in societies, in Africa. Study the mechanisms for setting up and implementing an African road safety observatory is also among the objectives of the Marrakech road safety forum.
