Works Minister, Chinese Ambassador visit construction projects in URR

Transport, Works and Infrastructure Minister Bai Lamin Jobe and the Ambassador of the People’s’ Republic of China to The Gambia Ma Jian Chun, last Wednesday visited major project construction sites in Basse funded by China, including the Basse-Wuli Bridge and Basse-Fatoto.

The engagement started with a meeting with contractor, consultant and government representatives who all deliver presentations and discussion was held on issues confronting workers.

Ambassador Ma Jian Chun underscored the importance of the projects, saying they will enhance socio-economic development of The Gambia.

He said about 5.7% of the project constructions have been completed, noting that workers and Gambian officials are working hard to complete the construction work on the various projects.

Transport, works and infrastructure minister Bai Lamin Jobe expressed delight at the rapid progress made on the projects and expressed confidence that work will be completed before the target period of August 2021.

He also stated that the projects will have great impact on socio-economic enhancement particularly in the region, ranging from connectivity, transportation and expansion of trade across the sub-region.
