Friday, December 21, 2018

A forty-seven year old woman Elizabeth Gomez, who has been suffering from osteoarthritis disease on her right hip since age of six is seeking for medical treatment support to replace the hip.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people worldwide. It occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of bones wears down over time.

Ms. Gomez said, she sustained the disease on her right leg hip when she fell and got fracture after taking her bath. Being admitted at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, she was told that she cannot be treated in the country.

Her x-ray and other medical reports indicates Ms. Gomez has previous problem on her right hip as it is congenitally small compared to the other hip. “This may cause her to develop a septic arthritis,” the report indicated.

In 2009, Ms. Gomez fell down again, causing more harm to the fractured hip and she was rushed to Dakar where they recommended oversea treatment.

To make matter worse, her leg also slipped in the bathroom in 2017 and sustained serious broke on the same leg supporting the already fractured hip.

The x-ray also shows degeneration of the right hip which needs replacement and  recently suffered from a fracture of her right distal femur.

She is now seeking for financial assistance for treatment abroad. The estimated overall cost for her operation in UK is twenty-five thousand pounds (€25,000).
