Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Mary Sambou to a fine of D25,000 in default to serve twelve months in prison with hard labour.
She was also ordered to pay a compensation of D550,000 to the complainant after she pleaded guilty of the charge of stealing from a dwelling house.
The charge sheet read that in May 2011, at Bakau Newtown, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict, Mary Sambou, stole from the house of one Fatoumatta Njie the following: three gold chain valued at US$500, US$9,700 and US$9,000, all being the properties of the said Fatoumatta Njie.
