We
would first and foremost give thanks and praises to God Almighty for seeing us
through the year 2016, which gives way to the year 2017 by Sunday.
As
the world prepares to see another year, we at The Point would like to wish all
a happy and prosperous New Year in advance.
The
year 2016 has come and about to go, and a lot has been achieved in many areas of our
lives. There are, however, lots ahead of us to accomplish, for which the year
2017 has presented an opportunity. It is indeed an opportunity for us to
accomplish what we will, as well as to roll out new sets of goals to be
accomplished as we lead a guided life in this vale of tears.
As
we in The Gambia enter the New Year, we are a nation in waiting to see the
outcome of the political impasse that looms over us after the December 1, 2016
presidential election.
While
we continue to give peace a chance, let’s continue to also pray that the
protagonists in this political standoff see reason for a change of heart and
resolve matters amicably.
We
are indeed entering a new phase of our political dispensation, a phase that is
full of hope but hanging in the balance, as we wait for 19 January when the
President-elect should be inaugurated.
As
we look up to that day, we would like to convey our best wishes and love to the
people of The Gambia and dear ones, both at home and abroad, as the calendar
changes from 2016 to 2017.
We
should thank the Almighty God for having seen us through 2016 as a nation,
families, individuals, corporate bodies and entities, and pray that the year
2017 be a more blessed and prosperous one.
As
we have always been advocating, we should continue to be united, peaceful and
show love to one another, especially to people going through some spiritual and
moral crises, by talking less about them, getting closer to them and praying
more for them.
We
should pray for our nation to be safe and to continue registering growth and
development year in year out.
