Federation second division league after defeating Gunjur United 2-1 in the week
twenty-six fixture played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on Monday.
The blue boys came from behind to beat the Gunjur-based football club to clinch the country’s second division league title.
Gunjur opened the scores through striker Fabai Janneh in the 11th minute of game from a thunderous long range strike to give South boys the lead. Wallidan responded quickly for an equalizer but couldn’t penetrate Gunjur’s defensive line ending the first half one nil.
Upon resumption of the game, Wallidan regrouped and piled pressure on Gunjur’s defence and leveled through Lamin Saho in the 56th minute of the game to cancel Fabai Janneh’s 11th minute strike to make it one apiece.
Lamin Saho netted the winner for Wallidan in the 78th minute of the game from penalty spot to fire the Blue boys after Dodou Sambou had brought down Musa Cham inside the eighteen yard box.
Wallidan went home with a giant trophy and cash prize of D100, 000 while Samger pocketed D75, 000 as the league runners up.
Coach Foday Bah applauded his players for a great battle promising that he will do all efforts to avoid his team from relegating to the second division.
