Wife testifies in husband case

Friday, August 27, 2010

Matti Badjie, a resident of Gunjur Madina Salam recently testified at the Brikama Magistrates' Court, presided over Principal Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea as the second defence witness in the criminal trial of threatening violence involving one Muhamed Amid.

Testifying as the second defence witness, Mrs. Badjie told the court that the accused is her husband, and she could recall on 20th November 2008.

According to her, on the day in question she was in her room sleeping when her daughter and grand-daughter came to inform her that her husband (the accused) was sick.

She adduced that since her husband was at the time in her co-wife's house, she decided to see him.

DW2 went on to inform the court that later in the day, she went to water her garden at the compound of one Ousman Bojang when she saw four men who were unknown to her. She added that she then went to inform her husband, because the land was entrusted to her husband by the said Ousman Bojang who is currently in Holland.

Mrs. Badjie further revealed that while she was going, she met with her husband patrolling at the garden with a gun and she informed him about the four men she met at the garden.

Subsequently, she said both of them went to the garden and upon arrival there, she said PW4 identified himself as a police officer, while PW1 said "let them take the gun from the accused person."

Mrs. Badjie said PW1 then forcefully took the gun from the accused and started fighting and during the scuffle the accused sustained injuries.

Subsequently, she said the matter was reported at the Gunjur Police Station.

Hearing continues.
