Wife, Co-Wife Allegedly Murdered

One Amadou Jarra was yesterday arraigned before Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai of the Banjul Magistrates' Court for allegedly murdering two women in Baddibou Kerewan.

Count one, the particulars of the alleged offence stated that the accused Amadou Jarra on 2nd March 2009 at KerewanVillage in the North Bank Region murdered one Nyimansata Ceesay by stabbing her with a knife.

While on count two, the alleged offence revealed that on 2nd March 2009, at KerewanVillage in the North Bank Region, the accused, Amadou Jarra, murdered one Kinty Fatty by stabbing her with a knife.

The presiding Magistrate, Edrissa Mbai, stated that even though the accused person pleaded guilty, this is a capital punishment offence in which the accused should be legally represented. He said the court would therefore remand the accused in custody until he had legal representation for his plea to be properly taken. He equally ordered the case to be transferred to the special court at the High Court which is assigned to handle capital and serious offences.
