six months before Gambia’s hosts Algeria in the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers
in Banjul, what is next for the Scorpions following the appointment of coach
Sang Ndong as the new technical director of The Gambia Football Federation?
The country’s football governing body GFF and relevant football authorities need to re-double their efforts to appoint new head coach for the senior national team prior to the proposed international friendly match against Central African Republic next month in Banjul, the continent’s biggest football showpiece qualifiers at home against Algeria in September this year in Banjul.
Sang Ndong, who signed a two-year contract with the senior national team in 2016 guided the Gambia to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers but failed to qualify the country to the continent’s bi-annual football showdown.
Ndong made several attempts to qualify The Gambia for the Africa Cup of Nations but failed in his quest.
Gambia is currently occupying bottom-place in group D of the 2019 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers with zero point after losing to Benin 0 -1 in their opening qualifiers match in June 2017 in Cotonou.
The Scorpions need to beat the Desert Foxes in their second group D fixture in September this year in Banjul to increase their chances of qualifying for their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations before playing against Togo and Benin.
