North African desert nation of Algeria will host the 3rd African Youth Games
and the Gambia Volleyball Federation launched the campaign dubbed” Road to
Algeria” at a press conference at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on
This campaign is part of the Federation’s efforts to make enough financial mobilisation to foot the bill for the team.
The Federation’s president Yunusa Barry disclosed that they need at least 2 million dalasis to take care air tickets, accommodation and other logistics for the team. “We have forwarded our request to the Ministry of Youth and Sports but we think is important that we go ahead and do fundraising to avoid disappointment from the Ministry,” Mr. Barry stated.
He said the team is ready to break into the African volleyball shackles and they deserve nothing but to compete at the Algeria games. “We had met the minister of youth and sports and the minister of Agriculture to this effect and both promised to support.”
“This team is the product of the African Dream Project centers. They have been playing together for the past three years and now is the time for them to go and prove their potentials,” Bai Dodou Jallow, 1st vice president of GVBF said. He called on all stakeholders, business entities and individuals to support the team.
The Technical Director of GVBF Pa Dodou Sarr said the fitness and capability of the team ahead of the July games is improving, saying his team of technicians is doing everything possible to develop the team physically and mentally.
The Gambia will be the representative from Zone 2 for boys U-19 indoor and beach volleyball U-18.
