UTG holds orientation for Class 2018

The University of The Gambia recently held an orientation of class 2018 of 558 students at a ceremony held at The Gambia College Campus in Brikama.

Speaking at the orientation ceremony, the UTG Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammed O. Kah, said they would continue to evolve as universities to respond to the challenges and need for access to quality higher education to those that meet the requirements from The Gambia and beyond.

“I must commend our admissions staff for the great job they continue to do in ensuring high admissions standards are met and admitting the best class ever. You Class of 2018 are indeed amongst the best selected from a large pool of applicants. You can be sure that you are here through your own merit,” Prof Kah said.

“To all freshmen and women, your journey towards attaining high academic qualifications is just beginning and your choice of UTG to launch this academic crusade is certainly a right one.”

Prof Kah challenges the students: “This University would shape your academic future, mould your character appreciably, and imbibe in you a high level of empathy for our citizens and their development aspirations.

“This University is a source of national pride and we must collectively nurture and protect it from all forms of vices and negative tendencies. In this way, we can help the institution attain its predetermined goals and objectives.”

The UTG is the best thing that has happened to The Gambia and continues to be the source for much needed quality human capital and leadership in all sectors, required to fuel the knowledge economy and put the country’s economy on the path of accelerated growth and development, broadly improving quality of lives in the country, he stated.

 “This class of 2018 is truly a unique class,” he noted.  “You are coming into The University of The Gambia at a time of huge optimism and excitement. You are coming to a stronger University with more opportunities and services to optimize your potentials and prepare you with much success for a brighter future.”

The Ag Deputy Vice Chancellor, Admin and Finance, Dr Omar Jah, said the occasion was another day for him and the staff to give and demonstrate the positive aspects of all the departments to the students.

Registrar of the UTG, Muhammed L. Tarro, said Gambia university is the right choice of every student with all the sacrifice that the students did to reach to the UTG.

The President of the UTG Student Union, Omar Sambou, said with determination, hard work, tolerance and respect one is certain to achieve whatever that individual is searching for in life.

The Facilities Manager of the University of The Gambia, Morro Krubally, said it was yet a privilege to witness another class of UTG, stating that he is ready with his colleagues to work collaboratively to share what they have with the students.

The UTG Relations Officer, Abdoulie Sillah, said the relations office is the most important office in the school as it observes students in the school and in foreign land.
