Bass stormed to victory in the women’s 200m at the 12th African Games in Rabat,
Morocco on Friday to beat Africa’s fastest sprinter Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou
with 22:58 as Ta Lou scooped bronze with 23:00 second.
Bass earlier won silver in the women’s 100m, making her the most decorated Gambian sprinter ever. “I feel good. The aim is for me to be on point when I get to the Doha world championships. My aim for Doha is definitely to be on the podium,” the new African 200m champion said, and added, “For me, it is a long season from here so I am hoping my experience will come into play.”
Bass’s success at the continent’s biggest sporting platform now puts Gambia sport in the limelight and the year 2019 will be remembered in the country’s history as the most successful sporting year for a country who still struggle to be a giant killer.
