United Purpose formerly known as Concern Universal recently embarked on mass sensitization campaign for communities in Lower River Region on bio-fortification dubbed -‘Baluu Timmaring-Ngo’.

Addressing the gathering, Alpha Khan, director of Freedom From Hunger Campaign (FFHC), explained the rationale behind the awareness creation, while underscoring the importance of the exercise.

Khan acknowledged the importance of palm millet, noting that it is necessary in terms of the development and protection of the body. Palm millet, he added, also serves as a source of nutrition which was not noticed these past years.

He reminded that the project also encouraged people to be eating fresh vegetable leaves and to grow it as much as they could to sustain themselves.

“There are different varieties of sweet potatoes, but among them the ones in red color is considered as the best among them according to our observation.”

Demba Sanyang, Regional Agriculture Director (RAD), highlighted the importance of the forum, saying the five-year project is ready to help local farmers and the community as a whole.

For his part, Ousman Jammeh, the project manager of United Purpose, said the project is vital as it would help communities to know better food they should consume.

Jammeh challenged representatives at the forum to be good listeners and to make the best use of the forum by sharing the knowledge gained with their various communities.

The project, he maintained, was introduced in response to the difficulties faced by communities, adding that since then the project is ready to help boost the living standards of people in the country.
