Unique FM Officially Inaugurated

The SOS for Communication over the weekend inaugurated Unique FM, a radio station, on their anniversary while also challenging youths to believe in themselves. The ceremony took place at their station on Garba Jahumpa Road, Bakau.

SOS Fatim Badjie Janneh, responsible for Communication, Information and Information Technology said the inauguration of a radio station by a young pioneer is wonderful. She said Lamin Manga, the owner of Unique FM has worked with GRTS and the event should be a sign to all in the media to believe in themselves, that they can do it. "On behalf of His Excellency, Professor Jammeh, I thank Lamin Manga for his strides. We thank His Excellency for providing a conducive atmosphere for all," she said. She spoke highly about the station's equipments and thanked Lamin Manga for a work well done.

In his speech His Excellency Barry Wells, United States Ambassador to The Gambia said, "VOA joins Unique FM, and people would listen to different shows and programmes from VOA through Unique FM", he said. Ambassador Wells gave a brief history of VOA and said it was started in 1942 and that the station is now heard in 45 languages.

Lamin Mai Touray from the Weather forecast Bureau termed the inauguration as unique. He says, "We are happy to tell the weather through Unique FM. People from all walks of life will be able to plan their day," he said.

Lamin Manga, proprietor of Unique FM said, "It is a unique situation because it serves the radio's anniversary of operation, my birthday, VOA's joining Unique and the incorporation of weather forecast for the first time on a radio. The broadcast will include Weather, Business news update on a daily basis. We are also pioneering Air Traffic news and we shall be launching our website soon. We are also further expanding to other parts of the country, by next week, and VOA starts broadcasting through us today", he said.

The programme was live on air, and Lama, the fun programme's anchorman, displayed his talent in the presence of the dignitaries.
