newly created association call the Union of Kombo South will be distributing
huge learning and sanitation materials to schools in Kombo South with the aim
to improve education and learning environment.
The Union is partnering with Hjoerring Private School in Denmark who facilitated to the procurement of the materials.
Chairman Musa Ceesay said they have been helping schools in Kombo South in many ways, with the target to improve education from nursery to secondary school. He said the current challenge of majority of schools in Kombo South are limited furniture and learning and teaching materials. “We are hoping that the Union will grow stronger to help other schools outside of Kombo South,” Mr. Ceesay said, during a consultative meeting with their Danish partners on Saturday.
According to him, they have been offering scholarship to students and food supplies to families, saying the existence of the Union will help to compliment government efforts in education. “Any role that the Union play will remain a significant step in improving the education sector.”
Birthe Jakobsen, a teacher at Hjoerring Private School in Denmark said they will be distributing footballs, trash bins, school uniforms, school bags and other learning materials, saying they have been supporting schools in Kombo South since 2013. “We focus in education because it is an important sector and plays a pivotal role in the advance development of a nation,” she said, and added, “It is important that everyone have the possibility to be educated.”
Christian Jakobsen also said they created the Union to help Gambian schools and will continue to be committed to the cause to help schools in Kombo South and subsequently the entire Gambia.
