United Nations local staff cooperative credit union last Friday holds their Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the United Nations house at Cape Point in Bakau.

The AGM is a platform where members manifest their democratic rights in an effort to ensure transparency, accountability, compliance in the administration and control of their Credit Union.

Yankuba Sawo, chairperson of the Credit Union said, Credit Union rule stipulates that management should convene AGM at the end of each financial year. “This is conducted to present the performance and challenges of the cooperative to the general membership.”

He said Credit Union all over the world primarily focuses on the welfare of members by giving affordable and adequate financial facilities in the form of loans and advice members to be efficient in their financial spending in a proper manner. “For the first time, we are able to pay 5% interest to members saving this year.”

Foday Sanyang, operations manager of National Association of Corporative Credit Union of The Gambia (NACCUG) said, the forum is a platform that looks at the past, highlight the present and decides the future of their financial cooperatives in monetary terms.

He applauded the Union’s achievement in past 2 decades, stating that they have tremendously improved the wellbeing of their members.
