Natives of North Bank Region’s lower Niumi district village of Essau in the United Kingdom Monday donated forty-five thousand and eighty-six dalasis to Essau Lower Basic School for the construction of a dining hall for students. They also donated medical items to Essau District Hospital.

National Assembly Member of the constituency Matarr Jeng also donated 40 bags of cement towards the project.

Chairman of the School Management Committee Yankuba Marong said the school required the support because students usually eat in the open with dust entering their food which can cause health challenges.

Kola Bahoum, chairman of the Learner’s Welfare and School Environment said many people have graduated from the school since its establishment in 1948 and as such, it was important for them to give back to the school. He said they plan to construct a dining and a multipurpose hall that can generate funds for the school.

Headmaster of the school Lamin Njie said they will start the construction in earnest and thanked the donors for the gesture.

National Assembly Member of the area Matarr Jeng said his personal contribution was an obligation as a former student and teacher of the school. He said it is never a regret to contribute to national development.

Chief of Lower Niumi Fa Bakary Nana Sonko commended the school management committee, donors and everyone working towards the advancement of the school.
