chief executive officer of Vision Development Foundation (VDF), Momodou Turo
Darboe, in partnership with the founder of ICTSI Terminal Examples, an international NGO,
donated food aids and other materials worth more than D1 million to the flood
victims in Kuntaur, Central River Region north.
The materials were received by the governor of CRR on behalf of the victims at a presentation ceremony held at VDF office at Churchill’s Town.
The donated items included 297 bags of sugar, 237 bags of rice, 139 boxes of laundry soap, and a cheque for D133,000 to facilitate the transportation of the items.
VDF Public Relations Officer Saikou Fofana said the donation was meant to complement the government’s effort at helping the victims of the recent flood “which devastated the community of Kuntaur”.
He said the support was also part of VDF’s activities in helping the people in critical situation though it was the first of such support extended to communities in CRR.
“This gesture could not have been possible without the support of Mr Darboe and his philanthropic partner,” he said, while commending the donors for their magnanimity.
Talking to this reporter after the presentation, the main man himself, Mr Turo Darboe, expressed appreciation for being able to support humanity, saying he inherited such generosity and support for people from his late father.
“I will continue to support the less privileged, especially people who are affected by flood,” the VDF CEO said.
Darboe said that since he started operating his foundation, no one had ever given him money to support the less privileged.
“This is the first time one of my international partners, the founder of ICTSI Terminal Examples, has contributed to supporting the flood victims, and he also contributed immensely towards the purchase of the food items,” he said.
While thanking the founder of ICTSI Terminal Examples for the support to the people of The Gambia, Mr Darboe assured the international philanthropist that he was ready to partner with him to support humanity.
CRR Governor Sulayman Barry described the presentation as a very “joyous day” for him as the governor of CRR after the flood struck his region.
He commended the VDF CEO and his international counterpart for supporting the flood victims in Kuntaur, assuring them that the items will be distributed accordingly.
Speakers at the food aid presentation included the executive directors of the National Disaster Management Agency and TANGO, National Assembly members, among others.
