Truck driver convicted for driving offences

Magistrate Bojang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court recently convicted and sentenced one Ebrima Janha on driving offences.

He was fined D1,500 on count one in default to serve one month in prison; on count two, he was fined D1,000 in default to serve one month in prison, and on count three, he was find D1,000 in default to serve one month in prison.

This was after he pleaded guilty to charges of careless driving, unlicensed driving and an inefficient breaking system.

In his mitigation plea, he begged the court for mercy and forgiveness, as he is the breadwinner of his family, and taking care of his parents.

The charge sheet on count one read that on 30 April 2015 at Brusubi roundabout, he drove a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 1587G truck without due care and attention.

Count two, he drove the said motor vehicle without a valid license.

Count three read that on 1 May 2015, at Brusubi Police Station, the said motor vehicle with registration number BJL 1587G truck was tested and it was found that the breaks were not functioning.
