Trial of Busura Alkalo resumes

The trial for alleged abuse of office involving one Alhagie Omar Faye, the alkalo of Busura village, resumed yesterday at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Babucarr Secka.

Testifying, Ebrima Yafaye O. Sonko, the alkalo of Jalanbang village, told the court that he had been an alkalo of Jalanbang village for seven years now.

He said he knows the accused, Alhagie Omar Faye, adding that there was a project called “Harr Yallah” in which the accused had a dispute with the Jarju Kunda family of Marakissa village.

He said the project was situated in the disputed land and that the accused person’s father, an Islamic scholar, used to clear the said land.

He added that he came to be aware of the land dispute between the accused and the Jarju Kunda family this year, adding that he was not even aware of any mediation between the accused and anybody.

The case at that juncture was adjourned till 7 July 2011.
