a month after supporting various hospitals, schools and communities across The
Gambia, Thomas Cook Northern Europe (TCNE) last Tuesday made another donation
of hospital materials to the country’s major referral hospital; Edward Francis
Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul.
The donation, facilitated by TCNE Gambia coordinator Modou Jobe, included operational beds, uniforms for nurses and doctors, chairs, towels and medicine storage among others.
Thomas Cook Northern Europe (TCNE) has been helping Gambian hospitals, schools, Day care centers for children with disabilities and local communities for more than 25 years now.
Coordinator Modou Jobe said as a key player in Gambia’s tourism sector development, Thomas Cook and staff are always willing to help the country’s health and education sectors.
He said tourism brings positive impact, saying over two hundred thousand Gambians directly benefits from it, adding that their gesture always target all Gambians.
He thanked Kirsi Holopaomen and Karolinska Sjukhuset Hospital for donating majority of the medical items.
Senior public relations officer of the Hospital, Modou Lamin Jammeh said the materials will help in their patient management, adding that the materials will be highly useful, especially the consumables.
Mr. Jammeh said they will use the materials in the best possible way, saying as the main referral hospital in the country with a daily patient attendance of 1, 200, they always welcome such generosities. He thanked Thomas Cook and Mr. Jobe, hoping that such gesture to the hospital will be a continuous thing.
In January this year, the tour operator donated hospital equipment, medicines, beds, ultrasound machines, operation tables and wheelchairs to several hospitals including Bafrow, Bansang, Sukuta, Hart House and Tanka Tanka Psychiatric hospital.
TCNE has also been supporting various schools with furniture, school materials, bicycles, computers, sports materials, mobile phones and kitchen equipment, new and used clothes among others.
Last year, Thomas Cook Northern Europe AB in collaboration with several hospitals in Sweden donated hospital equipment to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for onward distribution to various public hospitals in the country.
The equipment includes scanning machines, operating beds, wheelchairs, fridges, bicycles, walking sticks, and chairs among others.
