Point Newspaper team was last Thursday crowned champion of the maiden
Inter-Media football tournament organised by the Gambia Press Union (GPU) in
partnership with the Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia (SJAG) after
defeating The Standard Newspaper 2-1 in the final played at the Independence
Stadium in Bakau.
The Bakau-based team, The Standard opened the scoring through Yusupha Gaye’s fine finish while The Point Newspaper leveled matters through Assan Ndoye before going into the break.
The Point Newspaper team goal-machine, Biram Gaye scored his side winning goal after a one-on-one finish in the 85th minute of the game to ensure The Point Newspaper emerge champions of the first edition of the GPU Inter-media tournament.
Biram Gaye who is the Point Newspaper goal-poacher became the leading goal-scorer of the tournament after scoring seven goals in five matches.
As winners The Point Newspaper team is expecting to be awarded with medals, a giant trophy and a cash prize of D10, 000, while runners-up The Standard Newspaper will also be awarded a consolation prize of D7, 000.
As leading goal scorer Biram Gaye is expecting to receive a cash of D2, 000, while Foroyaa Newspaper will also be given D4, 000 for winning the most-discipline team award of the tournament.
