Ten Teams To Battle In The Weekend Inter-Academy Football Quarter-Finals

The ongoing GFA organised Inter-academy Football Tournament is gaining momentum among youngsters in Under 13 and 15 categories as the competition reaches its quarter-final stage in different venues across the country, after some weeks of exciting and entertaining moments of youths' football.

Ten teams are putting their houses in order to berth a place in the semi-final stage when the quarter-final got underway in different playing centres, namely Lamin, Buffa zone, Bakau playing ground, Sea View football field, Real De Banjul football field and the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

National Sports will take on Njogu Demba Academy, while Lucky Dube and GH will clash in the second quarter-final.
Faya will lock horns with Faji Kunda in Buffer Zone. Balajo meets Tallinding while Luck Holland will play against Ebo-Town to wrap-up the quarter-final games on Sunday

Pa Suwareh Faye, the Vice-Chairperson of the organising committee of the Inter-academy Football Tournament dilated on the significance of the young tournament, adding that it would serve as a source of motivation for the youngsters.

"The importance of this Inter-academy Football Tournament cannot be over-emphasised given the fact that it would avail the football authorities an opportunity to scout young talents that might be the future national team players in the very near future," the former U-17 team coach highlighted during an interview with our reporter in his office, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau yesterday.

'These youngsters are very much fundamental because our plan for the future is completely based on players of their qualities," Mr Faye told our reporter.

He also said that the Inter-academy Football Tournament is attracting immense participation as manifested by the large turnout from the spectators at the various playing centres across the country.
