Taiwanese Ambassador Presents US$500.000

The ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan His Excellency Dr. Richard Shih on Monday June 15 2009 presented a cheque valued at $500,000, equivalent to13 million Dalasi to the Gambia government.

Abdoulie Sallah, the Secretary- General, Head of Civil Service, received the money at a ceremony held at State House.

SG Sallah, who received the cheque, thanked the Taiwanese government through ambassador Shih for the gesture.

In presenting the cheque on behalf of his government, the head of Taiwanese mission in the Gambia disclosed that the money is part of his country's contribution to the development of higher education and vocational training in the Gambia.

Ambassador Shih described the two countries as partners in progress.

Ebrima Camara, the Permanent Secretary at the Office of the President applauded the cordial ties that bind Taipei and Banjul. He commended the government of Taiwan for contributing towards the socio-economic development of the Gambia.
