Taiwanese Ambassador Hails Gambia's Food Sufficiency Drive

The Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, His Excellency Richard Shih has expressed delight with the country's food self-sufficiency drive.

The chief Taiwanese diplomat made this remark recently in Farafenni, North Bank Region during an agricultural field day trip.

The forum organised by the North Bank Regional Agricultural Directorate was meant to showcase the involvement and participation of women farmers in the promotion of Nerica rice production.

He commended women farmers in the area for their hard work and contribution to national development.

Ambassador Shih also applauded them for responding to the President?s back-to-the-land clarion call.

He said the efforts undertaken by the country could obviously lead to food self- sufficienecy, thus commeding President Jammeh for his leadership style.

The Taiwanese envoy finally encouraged the farmers to keep up the momentum. 

The Regional Governor, Alhagie Eduwarr Seckan, thanked the Taiwanese Technical Mission for their technical support to the agriculture sector. 

According to him, the mission has helped develop a four-year Gambia Rice Project with the aim of helping the country attain food self-sufficiency.

Alphu J. Marong, the Regional Agric Director thanked the Taiwanese mission for providing support in a form of fertiliser, Nerica seed and others.
