of Serahule Youth Development Organisation –SYDO- say they are intending to
finance the construction of a multi-purpose center in Basse from the profits
they expect to make from their forthcoming beauty contest scheduled for May 4,
at the Alliance Francaise.
The organisation has been organising series of fundraising activities for the intended project with a sketch plan of the multi-purpose centre already prepared and now moving to start the construction. “Looking at the amount that it will require, the association deems it necessary to stage another fundraising to erect the structures,” one of the organisation’s executive members said.
The multi-purpose centre is expected to assist in reducing rural-urban drift as more young people are leaving the rural to urban areas in search of skills and opportunities. It is also expected to help in building skills and knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electronics, tailoring and more.
SYDO was registered in June 2009 as a non-profit making charitable organisation targeting to foster and promote understanding and co-operation among its members and with government and other groups or societies for the purpose of contributing effectively to the progress and development of The Gambia.
The organization has since been actively supporting its target communities in the areas of agriculture, social services, sports and cultural promotion.
