Swim for Life Gambia has recently held its graduation ceremony for 31 athletes at the Gambia Armed Forces Joint Officers Mess in Kotu.

Coordinator Sang Mendy said the training was organized to train children within the ages of 6 to 18 years to learn how to swim and save lives.

He stated that 30 children registered for the training  two years ago but 38 students took part in this year’s training.

He explained that the objective of the training is to save lives, produce future national swimmers and also teach people how to swim.

Borri Darboe, sales and marketing manager at  Banjul Breweries Limited, who also doubles as chairman of National Sports Council  (NSC) said the participants are not only taught how to swim but also to save lives.

He encouraged the participants and instructors to continue working hard to represent the Gambia in Olympics.

Mr. Darboe hailed instructors for a job well done and urged them to continue rendering support to the development of swimming. He said the Ministry of Youth and Sport would include swimming in their budgets.
