Nawettan Organizing Committee has slammed Gunjur with a D10, 000 fine for what
they called their misconduct during their 2018 Super Nawettan quarterfinal game
against Manjai on 6 November at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The 2016 Super Nawettan champions were fined for throwing plastic water bottles on the pitch when their side leveled scores through winger Mbemba Fatty in the 65th minutes to push the game into a post-match penalty shootout which ended 4-3 in favour of Manjai.
Gunjur escaped from fine against Brufut in their opening group C match on 28 October at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium when their fans threw water bottles on the pitch after referee Sadibou Chilly Sarr failed to award a penalty in the second half when striker Lamin Jallow alias Sako was fouled inside the area.
The South boys were eliminated from the country’s community biggest football fray after losing to Manjai 4-3 on penalties in the quarterfinal following their 1-1 draw in the regular time.
