The
draw for the 2016 Super Nawettan was held yesterday at the Gambia Football
Federation Secretariat in Kanifing Layout.
Twelve
major nawettan teams are divided into two groups of six zones each for the
country’s community biggest football fray.
The
groupings for the 2016 Super Nawettan are as follows.
Group
A comprises the 2015 Super Nawettan champions Serrekunda West, whipping boys
Serrekunda Central, Lamin, BEM, Brikama and Manjai.
Group
B consists of 2015 runners up Sukuta, Serrekunda East, Brufut, Bakau, Gunjur
and Banjul.
Speaking
at the draw, Ba S. Jabbi, the chairman of the Super Nawettan Organising
Committee, said Super Nawettan is set to kick off on 8 October and finish on 30
October 2016, adding that matches will be played in Serrekunda East, West,
Manjai and Brikama.
Jabbi
pointed out Brikama will not play in their home at the Box Mini Stadium due to
crowd incident that occurred against Banjul last year, noting that semifinal
and final will be played at the Independence Stadium.
For
his part, Bakary B. Baldeh, GFF media officer, said FiBank will sponsor the
super nawettan in next three years.
