Students’ Animal Welfare Association to embark on nationwide tour

The Students Association of Animal Welfare of The Gambia College and the University of The Gambia will embark on a country wide tour to sensitise farmers, particularly horse and donkey owners on the importance of taking proper care of their animals.

This was disclosed by the association’s coordinator Dr. Kebba Daffeh during celebration of animal welfare awareness day at The Gambia College hall over the weekend.

The celebration witnessed welcoming of Dr. Ruprecht Herbst, president of WTG/VET United Germany, the main sponsors of the animal welfare students both at the UTG and Gambia College.

Dr. Daffeh said the association has 200 member students. “We are focusing on strengthening animal welfare education both at the UTG and Gambia College.”

He said the celebration was meant for them to come together to celebrate animal awareness day and to welcome their partners. He thanked Dr. Ruprecht and his team for their continued partnership with them.

President of WTG/VETs United Germany Dr. Ruprecht Herbst expressed gratitude to the association and assured them that they will continue to stand by and support the students’ cause at the UTG and Gambia College.

Also speaking at the forum, Dr. Buba Badjie, a Gambian veterinary based Sweden pledge a 50,000 dalasi support to the association for the nationwide tour.

Mr. Badjie said the commitment of the association members was impressive, appealing to them and those in possession of animals to treat animals fairly and freely as they also deserve some protection and control.
