STOP PRESS: Judgement in Six Gambian Journalists Case Deferred

The judgement in the case of the six Gambian journalists could not be passed today as scheduled. The presiding Judge, Justice Emmanuel Fagbenle delayed the judgement and adjourned it to tomorrow Thursday 6th August at 10am.

Ebrima Sawneh, Pap Saine, Sarata Jabbi-Dibba, Pa Modou Faal, Sam Sarr and Bai Emil Touray are charged with six counts of conspiracy to commit seditious publication, publishing seditious publication, conspiracy to commit criminal defamation and criminal defamation.

The defendants were arrested on 15th June 2009, by the NIA and taken into custody for three days, following the publication of a press release issued by the Gambia Press Union, reacting to an interview made by President Jammeh over GRTS.
