Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Steve Biko FC on Sunday booked their ticket to the quarter finals of the 2009 Gamtel sponsored FA Cup Championship, following their 4-3 victory over Brikama United. The Bakau giants capitalised on a post-match shoot-out after drawing 2-2 in normal playing time to beat their opponents 4-3.

Brikama United opened the scores in the 21st minute through striker Alagie Bah from a close range shot.

Steve Biko fought back and created chances, but was unable to level the scores. The first half ended 1-0 in favour of Brikama United.

At the resumption of the second half, Steve Biko who rested most of their big name players mounted pressure on Brikama United's defence line and their efforts paid dividend in the 56th minute when defender Malamin Jammeh levelled the tally from a long range shoot.

Brikama United though fought back and striker Lamin Findi Jammeh brought Brikama United back in front in the 71st minute from a goal mouth scramble, while Ousman Jarju, alias Raul levelled the scores for the giant killers in the 83rd minute, after slashing through Brikama United defence line to make it 2-2.

Then the match went into a penalty shoot-out which ended 4-3 in favour of Steve Biko.

Africell defeated Seaview FC 1-0 at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium, while the FA Cup champions Wallidan defeated Serrekunda East 6-5 on penalties when both sides drew normal 1-1 earlier at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
