GSM Company on Thursday awarded The Gambia national security services and the
media as part of their effort towards national development.
The ceremony, which was attended by hundreds of people held at Youth Monument in West Field, also showed Star GSM Company give a cash amount of D30,000 to the women kafu of Tallinding.
In his speech at the award ceremony, Lamin Kaba, managing director of Star GSM, thanked all those who attended the ceremony, noting that this was part of contributing to national development.
Kaba said the purpose of awarding the security of the Gambia and the media was because of their efforts to national development, adding that they should all come together to work towards the development of the country.
“I award the Gambia Armed Forces and the Gambia Police Force as well as the media for the good work they are doing in this country, especially during the political impasse,” he said.
For the women, Star GSM boss said Star GSM and Gambia Protective Association (GPA) would help other women kafos while calling on Tallinding women kafo to put the money given to them to best use by establishing a business for themselves.
Kaba also promised to establish a mobile training centre in 2018 to train youths as mobile technician for free.
Speaking on behalf of The Gambia Armed Forces, Lt Colonel Mai Tourary, thanked Lamin Kaba for his efforts, noting that this was part of contributing to national development.
She said they were happy with the awards and commended Mr Kaba for the good work that he is doing.
ASP Foday Conta, who spoke on behalf of the Gambia Police Force, also commended Lamin Kaba for supporting the Gambian security, adding that if they have such people like Lamin, the country would develop faster.
He called on other business people to emulate Lamin Kaba while urging Kaba to continue the good work.
Also speaking on behalf of women kafos, Ajaratou Binta Sabally, thanked Star GSM and Gambia Protective Association for coming up with the initiative.
Madam Sabally called on the women of the country to support Lamin Kaba and called on Tallinding women kafo to put the money given them to good use.
