Staff of the
Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) yesterday thronged the
streets as they walked up to the State House’s main gate in Banjul, demanding
the immediate resignation of their managing director, Muhammed Manjang.
The protesters mainly junior staff of the corporation have accused their boss of corruption, abuse of office, and nepotism. This followed a petition they filed at the Public Accounts and Enterprises Committee of the National Assembly among other relevant key stakeholders.
The procession march, which was characterised with display of placards with inscriptions: Manjang must go!, was led by Momodou Camara, head of the SSHFC staff representative.
Sources have that most of the protesters have showed their discomfort with their boss for what they called his refusal to “comply” with them, thus organising this procession march to State House main gate in Banjul. However, MD Muhammed Manjang has denied any wrongdoing.
