part of their corporate social responsibility, Gambia’s Social Security and
Housing Finance Cooperation (SSHFC) on Friday donated office materials to
Serrekunda General Hospital.
The materials were handed to the hospital management at its ground at Kanifing in the presence of the hospital’s senior management and officials of the corporation.
Babucarr Saine, administrator of the hospital said health is expensive, emphasising that providing quality health care services require lot of resources, “and knowing the economic status of this country and the entire sub-Saharan Africa, it would be very difficult for government to meet the health care needs of their population.”
He said there is need for organisations and private institutions to support government, saying this is where the role of parastals comes.
According to Mr. Saine, this is not the corporation’s first intervention to support the medical sector, noting that they never waited for institutions to ask them for help.
Kebba Manneh, chief executive officer of the hospital said the donation is a clear manifestation that the corporation is fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities.
CEO Manneh added that conducive working environment improves performance and they are trying to provide that conducive environment to enable their staff to perform well to achieve quality health care.
Pa Matarr Mbye, public relations officer of Social Security and Housing Finance Cooperation assured that they hope to give more support to the hospital this year. “This year we would start with refurbishing the facility to standard and next year we would look into your needs.”
Mr. Mbye said the corporation would send a survey team to one of the hospital’s wards to find out what will be the needs there in terms of infrastructure.
