Sports Ministry rescinds suspension of GFF top officials

Thursday, August 09, 2018

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has revoked the suspension of three top officials of Gambia Football Federation (GFF) barely 24 hours after the National Sports Council (NSC) announced their suspension.

Lamin Kaba Bajo, the president of the federation, Ebou Faye, second-vice president and Bakary K. Jammeh Ex-Co member had all been suspended with immediate effect by the NSC and urged to hand over to the 1st vice president of GFF, Abdoulie Jallow.

The trio was suspended following instruction and recommendation of the National Assembly Select Committee on Youth and Sports on the outcome of the investigation into alleged tax fraud involving the officials of GFF and legal advice from Ministry of Justice, pursuant to the Section 16 of the National Sports Council Act 2000.

However, to avert any repercussions to the act of government intervention in football, the government swiftly reacted to rescind this decision.

“I will invite both parties to my office to trace out the problem and give every candidate the chance to stand for the election set for 18 August 2018,” the Minister Hadrammeh Sidibeh told The Point
