Sports Journalists to Select Top Player

Sports Journalists across the country have been given the mandate to select the Best Player of the 2008 zonal championship. The player will be crowned during the final of the tournament slated for Saturday January 10th at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium.

The trophy, sponsored by Gambians living in the United Kingdom, is another boost received by this year's super Nawettan staged in the name of Muhammed Jammeh.

Seedy MB Kinteh, President of The Gambia Football Association commended the Gambian community living in the United Kingdom for coming up with the initiative.

He said, "We need the contributions of all patriotic Gambians as GFA cannot do it alone.So I am calling on all Gambians abroad to emulate the gesture".

He said as part of the sponsorship, a trophy has been put forward and will be presented to the winner on Saturday.

The most awaited final of the Muhammed Jammeh's sponsored Super Nawettan between Bakau and Banjul is expected to be tightly contested by both teams who were also last year's finalist. Defending champions Bakau will be looking for another gold medal while Banjul is also aiming for glory on Saturday.

A cash prize of D50, 000, twenty-five gold medals and a giant trophy will be awarded to the champions while second place holders will receive D30, 000 with Twenty-five Silver medals.
