midfielder Ebrima Sohna who played for Azerbaijani club Kesla FK has called on
Gambia government, companies and private sector to support the country’s
national team just as other countries are doing. He said compared to other
countries, The Gambia shows less support to the national team.
Speaking to our reporter on the sideline at a press conference at The Gambia Football Federation’s Headquarters on Monday, Sohna said if they want to qualify as a country, finance needs to be injected into the team, adding that football is about money and without which it will be difficult to get where they want to be.
According to him, The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is receiving money from FIFA and CAF but that is not enough to get everything they need, adding they need the ministry to not only come out and tell them good luck but to finance the team as well.
“We are also calling on companies and the private sector to come in and give their support. This is about a nation and not GFF. It is about all of us as a nation,” he said.
