Secretary of Sustainable Management Initiative and Life Skill for Economic Development
(Smile for Life) Omar Sanyang has underscored his organisation’s resolve to
fight to end Turtle hunting and killing around the coastal area of Kombo South
Smile for Life is a youth-led organization based in Brikama with the aim to develop the potentials and capabilities of youth and children in the drive towards sustainable socio-economic development and climate change adaptation.
Mr. Sanyang said the organisation seeks to improve the living standards of young people through the promotion of socio-economic programs with emphasis on income diversification, education and skills development, create employment opportunities for the youth to discourage rural/urban drift and illegal migration. They also to promote unity and peaceful co-existence among the young people as well as their active participation in environmental and climate change adaptation among others.
He thanked the department of parks and wildlife for enabling his organization to embark on a project, which is designed to put an end to Turtle hunting and killing in their communities.
He spoke on the importance of Turtle conservation in a bid to promote eco-tourism within the country as well attract tourists.
He added that his organization has also embarked on aquaculture to promote eco-tourism and create job opportunities for the youth while appealing for NGO and philanthropists to support them in their endeavor.
