Fourteen players of Serrekunda East Bi football club are currently in Turkey on the invitation of Erzurmspor, a Super Lig team to play three friendly games which will serve as trials for The Gambian players.

Serrekunda East Bi is a Gambian second division football club currently competing in The Gambia Football Federation second division league.

Speaking to Point Sports, Mikailu Secka, assistant coach explained that out of the 14 players that were invited, four are from Wallidan FC, one from Gamtel FC and three from Guinea Conakry who previously played for SK East Bi FC.

He added that they initially invited players from Real De Banjul to join the team to Turkey but they could not make the trip. The players were accompanied by four officials.

The invitation, according to Secka, is from 14-29 August 2019 and facilitated by SK East Bi club president Malick Camara of Sport-Saller. He described the invitation as very important for the team, noting that they have been sending individual players on trials but this was the first time they send a team at once for trials.  He also described the move as a big stepping stone in Gambian football.

He appealed to players to return to the country once the invitation comes to give chance to other players to also benefit from the opportunity which is meant to continue.

Secka stated that the invitation will help the team attract other players to sign for them, and also urged the team to play to their pattern and not divert from the object of the team.

Coach Secka pointed out that their target this season is to qualify for the first division league as in the previous years, they have been targeting to stay in the second division league and build a formidable team that will be strong enough to sustain itself in the first division league once it qualify.

Meanwhile, the team is expected to play its first friendly game today, Tuesday.
