briefed Youth and Sports minister Hadrammeh Sidibeh on the 10th edition of the
Association’s National Sports Awards and Gala Night at his office in Banjul
The 10th edition is slated for Saturday 20 April at the prestigious Coco Ocean Hotel in Bijilo.
The event is meant to honor, award and celebrate present and past sports men and women, within and outside of the country, for their achievements in their different sporting disciplines.
Mr. Ceesay informed the minister that preparations are at an advance stage and several sports personalities within and outside the country are expected to attend.
He said among the international guests expected to witness the event include Senegal and Guinea Bissau sports ministers, Senegal senior national team Coach Aliou Cisse, former Senegalese international Henry Camara and UK-based Gambian sprinter Nusrat Ceesay.
“Mr. Cise said they will also be joined by their counterparts from the Senegalese Sports Journalists’ Association (ANPS), who will also play a friendly football match with our members on Friday April at the FIFA Goal Project in Yundum. “It has not been easy coming this far, but with the determination of the executive members and partners; we are able to pull it.”
Youth and Sports minister Sidibeh applauded the association for imitating the yearly event to celebrate sports men and women for their hard work. “Sports Journalists are critical partners to the development and promotion of sports. I assure you of my ministry support and involvement in such events.”
SJAG is the umbrella body of all practising sports journalists in the country. It is also affiliated to the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and The Gambia Press Union (GPU). The association has more than 50 registered members.
