Journalists Association of The Gambia (SJAG) over the weekend awarded the best
Gambian athletes, individuals and groups who over the last 12 months have
entertained and caught their attention.
The award ceremony that was held on Saturday at Djembe hotel in Kololi, was used to inspire and celebrate fellow countrymen and women for their efforts in all sports.

He said the activity is a very important event in Gambian sports, while thanking everybody who in one way or the other helped in ensuring the success of the event.
Musa Sise, President of SJAG said aside from honouring, the other purpose of the gathering is to inspire and celebrate fellow countrymen and women in recognition of their efforts in all sports and at all levels, adding that the national sports awards has earned its rightful place in the country’s sports calendar for a non-discriminating approach in the recognition of all practiced sports in the country by all active athletes.
Arouna Dem, first vice president of Senegalese Sports Association (ANPS) said there exists a close collaboration between them and SJAG in development of sports for the two countries, adding that they both recently made a collaboration in what they called developing each other in terms of sports.
President of Gambia Press Union (GPU) Emil Touray said the event provides an opportunity to not only award men and women who have served the country but also to provide them with the opportunity to pay homage to SJAG members that are no longer with them including late Lamin Darboe and Fatou Mbye.
