SIC announces Sept 20th as Muslim New Year

The Supreme Islamic Council in collaboration with the office of the Imam Ratib of The Gambia informs the general public that Monday 10th of September 2018, fell on the 30th of ‘’Dhul-Hijjah’’, marking the end of the Muslim calendar, according to a media sent through GRTS.

The release further states that Tuesday 11th September 2018, is the 1st day of Muharam; the 1st month of the Islamic calendar.  The Supreme Islamic Council therefore announces that Wednesday 19th  September 2018 will be the day of Tasuha  and Thursday 20th September will be Yawmul Ashura locally known as ‘’Tamharit’’.  In view of the above, the council reminds the Muslim Ummah the importance of fasting the 9th and 10th day of ‘’Muharam’’ according to the sunnah of the Prophet Peace and Blessings be upon him.  The council therefore wishes his Excellency the President of the republic of The Gambia Adama Barrow, his government and the entire Muslim Ummah a blessed Muslim year.
