Sibanor Rape Case Heard

The trial of an alleged Sibanor Village rape case involving one Sulayman Camara commenced on 24th September 2009 before Justice Moses Richards of the Special Criminal Court Division of the High Court.

Testifying as the first prosecution witness, the victim told the court that she knows the accused, Sulayman Camara and that she could recall on the day in question.

According to her, she was sent by her mother to sell mangos at the market where she met the accused who told her to go to his compound under the pretext that he is going to buy the mangos. She informed the court that at the accused compound's, the accused asked her to wait for a few minutes, adding that the accused later came and forcefully dragged her to the house, cover her mouth and fell on her. She adduced that, she was screaming and shouting because of the pain and that her cloths were stained with blood. She revealed that she narrated the ordeal to her mother who went to the accused's compound and later reported the matter to the police. She explained that she was taken to hospital where she was examined and confirmed to be raped.

Testifying as the second prosecution witness, Penda Sowe told the court that she lives in Sibanor Village and that the victim is her daughter who is 13-years-old. Penda said she knows the accused Sulayman Camara.

According to her, she sent the victim to sell mangos at the garage where she met the accused who told the victim to go with him to his compound under the pretext that he is going to buy mangos. She said at the accused's compound, the accused forcefully raped her daughter.

She informed the court that when the victim came she observed that there was a stained of blood on her, adding that upon her inquiry, her daughter told her that she was raped by the accused, Sulayman Camara. She explained that she reported the matter to the police and the victim was taken to Bwiam Hospital where the wound was stitched.
