Sheikh Njie clinches late Abdoulie Saine draughts trophy

Sheikh Njie of Banjul Dobson Street Vous has emerged winner of the 2018 late Abdoulie Saine trophy after beating Modou Jagne of Cashier Vous in the final played at the Methodist Hall in Banjul recently.

The annual competition began with prayers, which were followed by welcome remarks by the president of The Gambia National Draughts Federation before the commencement of the competition. It brought together thirty-one participants for the annual championship.

At the end of the competition, Mr. Njie received D3, 500 as the champion while Mr. Jagne received D2, 500 as the runner-up.

Omar Secka of Post Office Vous went home with D1, 500 as third-place winner while Abou Ceesay of Dobson Vous bagged D1, 000 as the fourth-place winner.

A consolation prize of D800 was given to four other participants for their participation in the competition. The competition was attended by sports enthusiasts, Draughts Federation executives, the Saine family and sponsors Mansajang Solicitors.
