Serrekunda General Hospital inaugurates new board

Serrekunda General Hospital on Monday inaugurated the new hospital Management Board, at a ceremony held at the hospital conference room.

Delivering her inaugural speech, Saffie Low-Ceesay, Minister of Health and Social Welfare, said the board members were carefully chosen and they complement the efforts of the ministry.

Minister Low-Ceesay added that the new constituted board of Serrekunda General Hospital marked another important day in their calendar and thanked them for accepting the national duty.

Madam Saffie Low-Ceesay further said the hospital management board was established by an Act of Parliament in 1988 with the aim to deliver efficient healthcare delivery system and their duties included but not limited to monitoring the affairs of the hospital to which it was established as well as to formulate and determine policies in respect of the hospital.

She noted the challenges are not limited to shortages in radical products including medical equipment, human resources, inadequate resources but also a rational use of healthcare resources, utilization of health resources, decision making, governance and leadership issues, as well as infrastructural development.

She pointed out that the ministry would provide all the necessary support possible in that endeavor, and to the management and staff of the hospital, she urged them to work closely with the board and provide all the required support and cooperation.

Kebba Manneh, CEO of Serrekunda General Hospital, thanked the Minister of Health for stepping in at the right time to constitute a new board for them, adding that since the change of management they have been operating without a board for almost four months now.

He disclosed that the management was determined and committed to ensure that they render the best quality of healthcare to the patients they serve day in day out.

Babucarr Saine, administrator of Serrekunda General Hospital, expressed sincere appreciation for the trust and privilege accorded to them as chairman and members of the Serrekunda General Hospital management board.
