Serekunda East Nawetan enters quarterfinals stage

The Africell-sponsored Serekunda East Nawetan competition is in high-gear as matches continue to intensify with fan clubs and spectators cheering their teams and players.

SESDO as it fondly called has been the only zone in the country to feature 40-teams in a Nawetan competition which has now reached into the quarterfinal stage of the league cup nawetan after completing the round of 16 matches over the weekend.

Bijen Kerr United became the first team to book their place in the quarterfinal of the ongoing Serekunda East nawetan after defeating Bantaba FC 7-6 on post-match penalty shootout following a goalless draw in the regulation time in the earlier game played on Wednesday.

In the late encounter on Wednesday, Manchester United also secured passage to the quarterfinal stage after beating in-form Cannon FC 1-0 in their round of 16 match.

Jola Kunda FC has also defeated Latrikunda United on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time in an encounter played on Thursday while Medina FC won Ebbeh Gi FC 5-4 on post-match penalty shootout in a derby game described as the clash of titans in the round of 16 match played on Friday.

The other Friday game between T-central and United Stars was adjourned by the central referee due to the weather condition. T-Central was leading by 1-0 after scoring in the 18th minute of the first half.

The final round of the last 16 games were played on Saturday after Nguma FC eliminated Ball Conge FC by 5-4 on penalty shootouts following a 0-0 score-line in regulation time.

Ball Conge were having a good form in the Serekunda East nawetan since booking their place back from the nawetan qualifiers before been eliminated on Saturday by Serekunda-based team Nguma FC.

Maccassa FC has completed the lineup of teams to play in the quarterfinals after beaten London United 2-0 with all goals coming in the second half after a goalless first half.

The Serekunda East league nawetan will now take a paused as they commenced their knockout tournament yesterday (Sunday) with Dubai playing against Latrikunda United in the earlier kickoff, while Zurich were also entertained by Bradford in the late encounter on Sunday.
