Senior Players confounds Smarteq in Gunjur Nawettan

Ousman SannehSenior Players, Saturday came from one nil down to beat Smarteq FC 2-1 in the 2019-2020 Gunjur nawettan, played at the Gunjur Upper and Senior Secondary School football field.

Smarteq FC opened the scores through right-back Ousman Barrow alias Carlos in the 1st minute of the match after capitalizing on Senior Players Lamin Sarr alias Ngagga Mbaye’s error to fire home the opener.

Winger Lamin Kunta alias L. boy could have netted the second goal for Smarteq FC in the 15th minute after dribbling past Senior player’s custodian Musa Jammeh but his shot went away.

Kebba Suwareh and Yankuba Suwareh both came very close to doubling Smarteq FC’s lead in the 20th and 25th minute of the game but their efforts were denied by Senior Player’s custodian Musa Jammeh.

Senior Players team, who comprises former players, regrouped themselves and dominated Smarteq FC in the midfield, creating several goal chances.

Former YSB, Wallidan and Real De Banjul striker Lamin Sarr alias Ngagga Mbaye could have leveled the matters for Senior Players in the 27th minute of the game from an astonishing free-kick but his shoot punched away by Smarteq FC’s net-minder Musa Dibba Sanneh alias Vector.

Sarr also came very close to leveling the matters for Senior Players in the 30th minute but his powerful shot was saved by Smarteq FC’s short stopper  Musa Dibba Sanneh alias Vector thus the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Smarteq FC.

upon resumption of the match, senior players organised themselves in the midfield, dominating the match and created some goal scoring chances.

Their efforts paid dividends in the 60th minute of the match when substitute Ebrima Kebbeh leveled the matters from an excellent long range strike.

Substitute Ousman Janneh alias Malangba scored the winner for Senior Players in the dying minute from a brilliant header to clinch the significant three points.

Meanwhile, Ecomog FC defeated Black Panthers FC 1-0 to bounce back in the town’s wet season biggest football jamboree after slipping to Smarteq FC 2-1 in their previous outing.

 Sanchaba United drew goalless with Santos FC while The Pub FC beat Martin Football Academy 1-0 in the all-Sifoe derby played on Sunday.
