Senegambia fans ‘proud of Teranga Lions’ despite loss

 Gambian and Senegalese football fans said they are truly proud of the Teranga Lions of Senegal despite their loss to the Desert Foxes of Algeria at the just ended African Cup of Nations final in Egypt.

The fans said although they were sad and frustrated after the Teranga Lions were crashed by the Desert Foxes by 1- 0 in Cairo on Friday but said they are proud of them in the tournament.

Alassana Seck said he was not happy about the outcome of the final, noting that Senegalese players were naive in allowing the Algerians to rob them of the only goal of the game.

“We’re a little sad, but that’s the nature of football. We were a little naive, they robbed a goal from us, but I’m happy that they have made it into the final,” he said.

Yasin Sallah said although the Senegalese team lost the cup, they are not at all sad because the boys gave all their effort in the final but luck wasn’t on their side.

Pape Ceesay also revealed that this was one of the best opportunities for Senegal to clinch the trophy but said that luck was not on the Teranga Lions side. “I am very happy that our neighboring country made a very respectable performance and also make it through to the final of Afcon in Egypt,” he said.

According to him, North African teams are always pose problems to the West African nations, but congratulated Teranga Lions for making both the Gambian and Senegal people proud by reaching the final of the 24-teams Afcon tournament.
